Carlos Carrasco 2019 Outlook: Most Underrated Pitcher in Baseball
6 years agoThe Cleveland Indians boast one of the best pitching staffs in the MLB, and that includes arguably the most underrated pitcher in the league in Carlos Carrasco. The 31-year-old has never made it onto the AL All-Star team, despite finishing in 4th place in Cy Young Award voting in 2017. His 2017 season included 18 wins and a 3.29 ERA with 226 strikeouts in 200 innings, as he was a dominant workhorse throughout the season. He then followed that up with 17 wins and a 3.38 ERA last season, while racking up more strikeouts, 231, in fewer innings, 192. As the season continued on, Carrasco got stronger. In the second half, he pitched 89 innings and held a 2.52 ERA, while striking out opposing hitters at a 32.8 percent rate. The signs are pointing toward the righty to continue his consistent pitching into the 2019 season, with the Indians being the dominant force in the AL Central, providing Carrasco with another opportunity for nearly 20 wins. Carrasco is currently ranked as the 13th starting pitcher and the 47th overall player in the RotoBaller Rankings, which would put him toward the end of the fourth round in 10-team leagues. If you go hitter-heavy early in your draft, Carrasco has the stuff to be a great SP1 for your roster. Ideally, he'd make a tremendous SP2.
