Sterling Shepard 2018 Player Outlook: Could See His Targets Decrease
6 years agoNew York Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard has been a solid performer over his first two NFL seasons, racking up 124 catches for 1,414 yards and ten touchdowns in 27 games. Under normal circumstances, the young receiver would appear primed to make the third-year jump but he will be part of a crowded pass-catching corps in 2018. Odell Beckham, Jr. will be back to full health after missing 12 games in 2017. Second-year tight end Evan Engram certainly earned more targets in 2018 after turning in one of the best rookie seasons ever for a tight end. Add in elite pass-catching running back Saquon Barkley and Shepard will likely end up as the team's No. 4 option in the passing game. Unless another injury pops up, Shepard's upside will be capped, leaving him as nothing more than a WR4 for the upcoming season.
