Marquise Goodwin 2018 Outlook: Big Plays And Big Potential
6 years agoFantasy owners spent a majority of the off-season speculating on whether the San Francisco 49ers would add a true WR1 to the roster before the season arrived. Even with Allen Robinson on the market, several good options in the draft and Dez Bryant pleading his case on social media to join the team, the 49ers held true and didn’t add any top receivers to the fold. So now we turn our focus to who will be the WR1 for the 49ers in 2018.
The best bet to win this role will be Marquise Goodwin. When Jimmy Garoppolo took over in Week 11 against the Seattle Seahawks, him and Goodwin formed an immediate connection. Over the next four games, Goodwin saw 39 targets which he turned into 28 catches for 425 yards. Things slowed down against the Jaguars and Rams in Weeks 15 and 16, but that happened for a lot of teams in 2017.
That offense is going to be firing on all cylinders in the bay and Goodwin will be the main recipient of those deep balls from Garoppolo. Everyone is going to have a role, but Goodwin’s ability to win over the top and run crisp routes will make him hard to handle for many teams this season. Expect a lot of big plays and a WR2 season from Goodwin with some weekly WR1 upside.
