A.J. Green 2018 Outlook: Should Remain Top-10 Wide Receiver
6 years agoDespite a down 2017, A.J. Green topped 1,000 yards for the sixth time in his career while finishing ninth in the league in targets. He was also able to convert 15 red zone targets into eight touchdowns, fourth most of his career. Despite entering his age 30 season, he could improve on those numbers in 2018. He finished 2017 fourth among wide receivers in air yards with 1,910. The only receivers that had more were Antonio Brown, DeAndre Hopkins and Julio Jones which only Brown and Hopkins had a higher Weighted Opportunity Rating. This combines a players target share and air yards share.
The Cincinnati Bengals offense, and Andy Dalton in particular, should be better in 2018 as well behind a much improved offensive line. In an age where more teams run three wide receiver sets and the ball is spread around much more, Green has little competition for targets both inside and outside the red zone. He is a safe bet to finish as a top-10 fantasy wide receiver in all formats. When you are looking for a WR1 in your draft, you can take Green with confidence.
