Joey Lucchesi Keeps Cruising
7 years agoSan Diego Padres starting pitcher Joey Lucchesi continued impressing with an easy 10-1 victory Sunday over the San Francisco Giants. Lucchesi required 88 pitches in six innings of work, fanning nine Giants while allowing an earned run, five hits and no walks. En route to his second win, Lucchesi brought his ERA down to 1.66 (2.63 xFIP) and WHIP to 0.97. Through four starts, Lucchesi leads all National League rookie pitchers in ERA, innings pitched (21 2/3) and strikeouts (25). Lucchesi had solid numbers over the last two seasons in the minor leagues and his peripheral profile shows no notable red flags or outliers amidst the upstart performance. With pitcher Dinelson Lamet (elbow) out for the season, Lucchesi has been a needed spark for the Padres rotation and he will face the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field this weekend. His ownership rate should continue climbing.
