Green Bay and Oakland Show Interest in Rashaan Melvin
7 years agoAccording to Adam Schefter of ESPN, both the Green Bay Packers and the Oakland Raiders have expressed interest in free-agent cornerback Rashaan Melvin. Melvin played for Indianapolis for the last two seasons and is one of the many standout cornerbacks who became free agents this offseason. After a flurry of deals announced recently, he is one of the only remaining top cornerbacks on the market. The 28-year-old cornerback is a tall player who uses his physicality well. Green Bay has been in need of a cornerback for several seasons. After the contract expiration of cornerback Davon House and the trading away of cornerback Damarius Randall, the position is the largest need for Green Bay this offseason. Oakland similarly is in need of a cornerback. They recently released Sean Smith and lost T.J. Carrie to Cleveland in free agency. Melvin would be a huge difference maker for both teams and would foreseeably raise the profile of each team’s defense considerably.
