Corey Dickerson Looks To Build On 2017 With New Team
7 years agoThe newest member of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Corey Dickerson is slated to be the team's left fielder in 2018. The 28-year-old was acquired in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays, who strangely designated him for assignment early in spring training. Following a disappointing 2016 season, Dickerson was an All-Star in 2017, starting at designated hitter for the American League after hitting .312/.355/.548 with 17 home runs and 42 RBI in the first half. His BABIP (.361) was unsustainable, though, and he slumped badly after the break, managing just a .241/.282/.408 line with 10 home runs and seeing a sharp uptick in his strikeout rate (28.2%). Dickerson has plenty of talent, but his streakiness prevents him from being a top-tier fantasy outfielder. The power, however, is something you can rely on, as he's hit at least 24 long balls in every healthy season he's had in the majors. Although PNC Park isn't known as a hitter's paradise, he's still a safe bet for 20+ home runs and will have plenty of run-producing opportunities in the middle of the Pirates' lineup. While he should be drafted as a third outfielder at best, Dickerson is an asset to fantasy owners when he's on his game.
