Eduardo Nunez Goes Beyond Normal Signing Procedures
7 years agoInfielder Eduardo Nunez has officially signed with the Boston Red Sox. He went beyond the normal physical to demonstrate not only his health, but how much he enjoyed playing for the team. According to Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe, the Red Sox had to be more diligent in ensuring Nunez's health due to knee injuries sustained after they acquired him. Nunez went through tests that measured the strength, stability and flexibility of his knees. These included running the bases, stealing bases, diving back to bases and taking ground balls at different positions. “They almost killed me!” Nunez said after everything was official. “I’m excited to be back,” he said. “I enjoyed the time last year here. I’m fully healthy.” Nunez will start at second base while Dustin Pedroia is recovering from a knee injury himself. Once Pedroia returns, the Red Sox will take advantage of Nunez's versatility to play him elsewhere and keep the offense fresh. In 38 games with the Red Sox last year, Nunez hit .321 with eight home runs and six stolen bases. A healthy Nunez in a great lineup with multi-positional eligibility is a very attractive fantasy asset.
