Julio Urias Faces Long Road To Recovery
7 years agoJulio Urias had a severe hiccup in 2017 by getting surgery on his left anterior cap last June. While it looks like he’ll begin to throw again sometime in February, there is no telling what kind of pitcher Urias will be if, and when, he gets truly healthy. Urias was off to a terrible start in 2017. The 20-year old Mexican phenom started five games at the big league level and only managed 11 strikeouts in 23 innings. He also gave up 14 ghastly ER and walked 14 batters, which was likely an indication that something was amiss with his throwing arm. Contrast that with his short 2016 season that saw his K/9 rate approach 10.0 and his 1.8 WAR, and you can see his clear upside. Owners in dynasty leagues are likely stuck with Urias unless there’s a Dodgers homer in the league. His value is at an all-time low but expect him to trend upward once more news is known about his condition.
