Jorge Alfaro's 2017 Could Be Deceiving
7 years agoAfter a cameo for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2016, Colombian catcher Jorge Alfaro had a longer, but still brief stint with the big league club last season. In 23 games, he hit .318 with five home runs, and 14 RBI, but his strikeouts were a glaring sign. The 24-year-old struck out 33 times in 29 games, while also walking just thrice during that period. HIs BABIP was .420, a sign that may point towards his .318 average being a deception. Looking forward to 2018, Alfaro appears set to take over the everyday catcher spot for the Phillies, meaning his struggles will come into higher focus. Considering his position, Alfaro’s power may warrant drafting exclusively, but counting on his batting average to be as high as it was last year would be unwise. Look for him to come at a fairly reasonable price and expect some power from his bat.
