Jeff Hoffman Battling For Rotation Spot
7 years agoJeff Hoffman’s 2017 started off in stellar fashion, but it got real ugly by the end. As of June 20, Hoffman had allowed more than one run in only one outing. He got lit up once, but bounced back admirably until the All-Star Break rolled around. After returning from the break, Hoffman would only have two more quality starts for the rest of the year. He’d finish with a 5.89 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, and no sure path towards a future starting spot. In 2018, he’ll be battling with the likes of Chad Bettis, Kyle Freeland, and Antonio Senzatela for the fourth and fifth spots in the rotation. Assuming he can win one of those, owners should probably keep a bit of an eye on him to see if he can regain that early season glory from 2017. That said, all indicators point to him being more of a bottom of the rotation type of pitcher, so he’s probably not going to hold much value.
