Adam Wainwright Hoping for a Bounce-Back Year in 2018
7 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Adam Wainwright struggled through most of the 2017 season before being shut down and undergoing an arthroscopic right elbow procedure near the end of the season. In 24 appearances (23 starts), Wainwright posted a 12-5 record with a 5.11 ERA. He struck out 7.01 batters per nine innings but posted the highest walk rate (3.28 BB/9) of his career. The 36-year-old certainly showed signs of wearing down as the season went on. He was not quite as bad as his 5+ ERA implies, since his FIP/xFIP were 4.29/4.40. Still, that's not necessarily a pitcher you want on your fantasy squad. Outside of very deep leagues and NL-only, Wainwright is a streamer at best at this point.
