Nick Williams Could Be The Sleeper That Never Wakes Up
7 years agoOne of the Philadelphia Phillies’ highest-rated prospects, outfielder Nick Williams made his debut with the major league team last June. He would play in 83 games and hit .288 with 12 home runs and 55 RBI, ultimately finishing near the top five on the team in the major hitting categories. Still, Williams struggled with a very high 28.3 K% and a very low 5.8 BB%. Making matters more complicated for the 24-year-old is the fact that the Phillies already have three other outfielder who can start in Odubel Herrera, Aaron Altherr and Rhys Hoskins. It would seem that Herrera and Hoskins are locks to start, leaving one spot open for Williams and Altherr. Should Williams win out, he will benefit from the lineup protection of Hoskins and newcomer Carlos Santana. His .375 BABIP is a great sign in terms of driving in runs, but once again, his draft status will hinge upon winning an outfield spot. At best, look for Williams with a final draft spot as a possible sleeper. At worst, leave him to be a possible waiver wire acquisition for later in the season.
