Carlos Santana Set For Debut Phillies Season
7 years agoAfter his contract expired with the Cleveland Indians, first baseman Carlos Santana signed a three-year deal with the rebuilding Philadelphia Phillies. The 31-year-old, coming off a season that saw him hit .259 with 23 home runs, 79 RBI and 148 hits, is expected to become the starting first baseman for the club. With Santana, there are a couple of positive traits both the Phillies and prospective fantasy owners can look for. First, that he’ll be durable, as he’s played at least 152 games in five straight seasons and six of the past seven. Next, the Dominican veteran will be patient at the plate, as his 13.2 BB% was actually a career low. Santana’s 23 home run total wound up being a disappointment considering he hit 34 in 2016, but the change of scenery should work to his advantage. Considering Citizens Bank Park ranked number one in Park Factor for home runs, a return to 30 home runs should be a reasonable goal for him. His batting average will bring his value down, so you can expect him to stick around towards the later rounds, around the 125th pick.
