ANALYSIS: For most of 2016, Carlos Rodon has been difficult to trust on a start-to-start basis, unable to string together more than three quality starts in a row. Lately, though, Rodon’s been good - and at this time of year, anyone seeking a SP streamer is hoping to parlay recent success into a clinching win. In his last four outings, all of which were quality starts, Rodon has a miniscule 1.46 ERA and a WHIP hovering around 1.00. His strikeouts are slightly down over this time (7.2 K/9 after being around 9 for most of the season), but he’s also kept his opponents from hitting any home runs. Rodon has accomplished this with mostly Rodon-like numbers, but there have been some promising (though small) upticks in O-swing% and swinging strike rates. Most notably, Rodon’s opponents’ BABIP was .355 from April through July, and sits at a mere .268 for August. These improvements are all reminiscent of Rodon’s final 11 starts of 2015, when he pitched to a 1.81 ERA and .243 BABIP while allowing just four home runs. Seemingly picking up steam in these dog days of summer, Rodon is worth monitoring as a potentially productive starting pitcher for the final weeks of the fantasy season.
