ANALYSIS: It has been quite a return to Detroit for Cameron Maybin this season. After eight years in the National League, Maybin returned to the team that made him a first-round draft pick in 2005. Although he started the year on the disabled list, Maybin has made up for lost time in a hurry. He is currently hitting .375 in 83 at-bats, with one homer, nine RBI and five steals. Maybin has never been a high average hitter, posting a .255 career average and never hitting higher than .267 in a season. His .421 BABIP is obviously unsustainable and is over 100 points higher than his career average of .317. Although his average is sure to drop, what Maybin can provide for fantasy owners is speed. He has stolen more than 20 bases three times, with a high of 40 in 2011. In his three full seasons of play, Maybin has produced a PwrSpd rating of 14.7, 12.2 and 13.9. At 1.7 right now, Maybin still has more to offer in those categories. He will probably start test the base paths more over the coming weeks as his average normalizes. Maybin is probably being added for his hot hitting, but he will continue to be useful for owners in any format that have the need for speed.
