Foyesade Oluokun 2024 Outlook: Fantasy’s Top Scorer, Not Top Defender
6 months agoFoyesade Oluokun has finished as the top-scoring defender in Standard IDP Scoring for two straight seasons, both of which he was also the NFL's leader in solo tackles. However, despite his dominance in overall scoring, the Yale grad isn't close to being the most valuable defender in fantasy. Last year, the difference between Oluokun and the ninth-highest-scoring LB in overall fantasy points was just 11%. Meanwhile, the difference between DB1 (Antoine Winfield Jr.) and DB9 was 25.5%. Worse, the difference between DL1 (T.J. Watt) and DL9 was a staggering 33%. On a per-game basis, Oluokun gave you a 1.5-point advantage over the LB13 (i.e., a replacement-level player) in Standard Scoring. Meanwhile, Watt gave you a 3.3-point advantage above replacement, and Winfield gave you a 2.2-point advantage. In other words, having an elite DB or DL is considerably more valuable than having Oluokun in Standard Scoring. In Big Play Scoring, Oluokun's value takes an even bigger hit. The Jaguars' star has averaged just 2.2 sacks and two forced turnovers over the past two seasons, which helps players like Fred Warner and Terrel Bernard close the gap at LB.
