Adonai Mitchell 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook: Will Rookie Deliver As Deep Threat For Indy?
6 months agoThe Colts took Adonai Mitchell with the 52nd overall pick in April's 2024 NFL Draft. This continues a trend of Day-2 WR picks, as Indianapolis is still seeking a wideout to complement Michael Pittman Jr. after drafting slot man Josh Downs in the third round of 2023 and Alec Pierce in the second back in 2022. Mitchell performed well at the NFL Combine after blossoming in his junior year at Texas, hauling in 55 catches for 845 yards and 11 touchdowns behind Xavier Worthy. The athleticism shown in the highlights can overshadow inconsistent play, but he only needs to be better than an extremely inconsistent Alec Pierce to earn a shot. MPJ takes one side while Downs often mans the slot, with Mitchell able to be the deep threat. Anthony Richardson isn't a great passer yet, but he also registered five throws of 30 or more yards on just 84 total attempts as a rookie. That ~6% rate (in a small sample) ranks third out of QBs with at least 75 attempts in '23, sitting between Joe Flacco and Matthew Stafford. Even if Mitchell earns the job then the boom-bust nature will lead to tough calls in traditional formats, with best ball better fitting his range of outcomes.
