Willi Castro 2024 Player Outlook: Expect Regression Despite Improvement
9 months agoMinnesota Twins utility player Willi Castro enjoyed a career year at the plate in the 2023 season. The 26-year-old tied a career-high with nine home runs but broke out with a whopping 33 stolen bases across 124 games played. He increased his walk rate to 8.3%, well above his 5.7% career mark, and his 109 wRC+ finished 9% above the league average. At the same time, his .304 xwOBA fell below his .327 wOBA and he ranked in the 21st percentile or worse in xwOBA, xBA, xSLG, average exit velocity, and hard-hit rate. He should be able to offer more stolen-base upside but ATC projects only nine more homers for Castro in 2024, a tough figure for fantasy managers to swallow at third base or the outfield. As a result, his 304.25 ADP seems rich considering his lack of contribution outside of the stolen base department.
