Jack Suwinski 2024 Player Outlook: Homers, Patience, And A Dash Of Speed After Pick 200
9 months agoAfter giving us a taste of his power in 2022, Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Jack Suwinski went full-breakout mode in 2023, launching 26 home runs and collecting 74 RBI on his way to a 112 wRC+ season over 534 plate appearances. The lefty also scored 63 runs and stole 13 bases while hitting .224 with a .341 WOBA. The 25-year-old doesn't chase many pitches out of the zone with a 22.0% O-Swing%, which helps bolster his BB% of 14.0%. When he does swing though, he makes less contact than average with a Contact% of 72.0% and Whiff% of 30.1%, driving his K% all the way up to 32.2%. Regardless, Suwinski will be drafted for his power, and the former 15th-round draft pick is set to continue his homer-hitting ways in 2024, as he upped his Sweet-Spot% 7.9 percentage points year-over-year from '22 to '23, and his Barrel% of 15.7% was 94th percentile. ATC projections call for a .227-24-68-65-10 line in 519 PA with a .334 WOBA and 108 wRC+. With an NFBC ADP of 237, he won't cost managers much, and if he can earn more ABs and steal a few more bases, then there's some upside too. RotoBaller ranks him at 218 overall.
