Eduardo Rodriguez To Start Cactus League Opener
10 months agoArizona Diamondbacks left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez will start the team's Cactus League opener on Friday against the Colorado Rockies, according to manager Torey Lovullo. The Diamondbacks added Rodriguez to their starting rotation in the offseason by signing him to a four-year, $74 million deal in free agency, and he'll slot in behind Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly as the club's No. 3 starter. The 30-year-old veteran southpaw went 13-9 with a career-best 3.30 ERA (3.66 FIP) and career-best 1.15 WHIP with 48 walks and 143 strikeouts in 26 starts covering 152 2/3 innings in 2023 in his second year with the Detroit Tigers. His 4.04 xERA indicates he was a bit lucky, though, and E-Rod allowed plenty of hard contact. Rodriguez will be moving to a much tougher division and is a bit of an injury risk, so fantasy managers should look to target him as more of a No. 4 starter in 2024 drafts.
