Luisangel Acuna 2024 Player Outlook: A Tale Of Two Double-A Seasons In 2023
10 months agoNew York Mets infield prospect Luisangel Acuna, the 21-year-old younger brother of 2023 NL MVP Ronald Acuna Jr., endured two very different Double-A stints with two different organizations a season ago. Acuna raked with a .315 average, seven home runs, 42 stolen bases, and an .830 OPS in 84 games at Double-A Frisco before being dealt to the Mets as part of the Max Scherzer trade. He went on to hit just .243 with two home runs, 15 stolen bases, and a .621 OPS across 37 games with Double-A Binghamton. While he has displayed some pop in the minors to go along with his elite speed, his power projection at the MLB level is weakened by his 5-foot-8 frame. With Francisco Lindor set in stone at shortstop in Queens, Acuna received more reps at second base in 2023 and will likely see his first taste of Triple-A in 2024. Whether he can parlay that into a big-league look in 2024 remains to be seen but he will have to beat out stable veteran Jeff McNeil at the keystone or perhaps get a look in center field given his footspeed. A high average and elite speed would be enough for Acuna to hit the fantasy radar if he can gain second-base eligibility upon his big-league debut.
