Logan O'Hoppe 2024 Player Outlook: Power-Hitting Catcher Could Breakout With Healthy Season
11 months agoLos Angeles Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe was a name to keep in your back pocket to open the 2023 season. A power-hitting option at catcher, he had something to prove before being trusted, but had the potential to do so. A .283/.339/.547 slash line through the team's first 19 games was a great start. He was hurt during that 19th game, however, tearing the labrum in his left, non-throwing, shoulder. The 23-year-old would be out of action until Aug. 18. He didn't set the world on fire in August, but hit nine home runs in September, finishing the year with 14. O'Hoppe is ranked 201 with a 190 ADP heading into 2024. He ended with a .236/.296/.500 slash line in 51 games for the Halos in 2023. A projection with slightly higher average and on-base numbers but a lower slugging percentage seems like a good starting point for the backstop. His .264 ISO from 2023 would have placed him 10th in the league if he had enough at-bats to qualify. Steamer and FanGraphs project him for a .212 ISO in 2024, however. So while he may not push for the home run lead at catcher, it's feasible that the youngster pops somewhere between 20 and 25 if he plays a full season's worth of games. O'Hoppe is the 13th-ranked catcher by RotoBaller and has the potential to finish in the top 10, as there are seven catchers within 22 slots.
