White Sox Designate Luis Patino For Assignment
12 months agoThe Chicago White Sox have designated right-hander Luis Patino for assignment. In a corresponding move, the club selected the contract of right-hander Josimar Cousin from Double-A Birmingham. It's been a significant fall from grace for Patino, a former top prospect with the San Diego Padres. The highly-touted righty was moved to the Tampa Bay Rays as a headliner in the 2020 Blake Snell trade and while he tossed a decent 4.31 ERA in 19 outings (15 starts) with the Rays in 2021, he was tattooed for an 8.10 ERA in 20 innings for the club in the 2022 campaign. The 24-year-old split the 2023 season between the White Sox and Rays, working to a 4.57 ERA in nine appearances (one start) but also posted a 5.33 FIP and a 5.36 SIERA while walking a hefty 14.1% of the batters he faced a season ago.
