Giants Interested In Matt Chapman
1 year agoThe San Francisco Giants are looking for a middle-of-the-order bat this offseason and are interested in free-agent third baseman Matt Chapman. New manager Bob Melvin and Chapman were together with the Oakland Athletics across the bay. The Giants won't have to give up draft-pick compensation to sign Chapman either, as he turned down the Toronto Blue Jays' $20.3 million qualifying offer. The 30-year-old is one of the best defenders in the league at third base, although he wasn't all that spectacular offensively in his second year in Toronto in 2023, slashing .240/.330/.424 with 17 home runs, 54 RBI, 39 doubles, two triples, a career-high four stolen bases and 66 runs scored in 140 games. Chapman's 17 homers were the fewest he's hit in a full season since his rookie year in 2017.
