Teoscar Hernandez Doesn't Receive Qualifying Offer From Mariners
1 year agoThe Seattle Mariners chose not to give a $20.325 million qualifying offer to outfielder Teoscar Hernandez, so the team won't receive draft-pick compensation if he signs with another team this winter. If Hernandez doesn't re-sign with Seattle, it will leave them with a hole in right field and in the middle of their lineup heading into next season. The M's were clearly wary of committing to a high price for a player prone to peaks and valleys offensively. The 31-year-old earned $14 million in 2023 in his final season of arbitration eligibility, and he'll be on the open market for the first time in his career. His .741 OPS and 106 OPS+ were among the lowest of his career this year for a full season, and his 31.1% strikeout rate was the highest on the team and fifth-highest in MLB.
