Dodgers Don't Give Qualifying Offer To Clayton Kershaw
1 year agoThe Los Angeles Dodgers chose not to extend a $20.325 million qualifying offer to left-hander Clayton Kershaw (shoulder). It's the second time that the Dodgers haven't extended a qualifying offer to Kershaw so that they don't have to rush his free-agent decision this winter. Kershaw is also coming off left-shoulder surgery and isn't expected to make his 2024 debut until sometime in the summer. It sounds like the 35-year-old future Hall of Famer isn't ready to retire just yet, but it remains to be seen if he'll return to LA for his 17th season. The veteran southpaw is now a big injury risk at this stage of his career, but he was excellent once again in 2023 when healthy, going 13-5 with a 2.46 ERA (4.03 FIP) and 1.06 WHIP with 40 walks and 137 strikeouts in 131 2/3 innings (24 starts). The 11-time All-Star and three-time Cy Young winner will obviously be much less attractive in fantasy in 2024 given the fact that he might only pitch half the season.
