Terry McLaurin might not be the first person that comes to mind when enumerating the NFL’s top quarterbacks. However, he has been a steady contributor for the Washington Commanders since he got drafted in 2019.
He’s had three 1,000-yard seasons, including a career-high 1,191 in 2022. More importantly, the former Ohio State standout has missed only three games in his first four seasons. Since he is an essential fixture in the Commanders' offense, any injury he incurs can shatter their winning hopes.
Washington fans held their breath when McLaurin suffered an injury during the limited preseason minutes he played. However, the 2022 Pro Bowler is trending towards suiting up in their season opener against the Arizona Cardinals.
Commanders Optimistic About McLaurin’s Playing Week 1
McLaurin suffered a turf toe injury during the Commanders’ second preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens. After the game, NFL Network National Insider Ian Rapoport shared that the wideout had an MRI even if the injury wasn’t severe.
With the scans showing no major injury, there’s a strong chance that McLaurin will be available in their game against Arizona. Being named one of the captains gives him additional motivation to be there for his teammates.
As McLaurin continues his path to recovery, the Commanders are cautious about his condition. Hence, they limited his participation during their most recent practice to avoid aggravating the injured toe.
The Commanders will open the 2023 season at home on September 10. It’s the start of a new era after the Josh Harris-led ownership group purchased the franchise from Daniel Snyder for $6.05 billion. Having McLaurin lining up will make the day more exciting for Commanders fans.
Terry McLaurin has missed games due to injuries thrice throughout his NFL career. The first instance occurred in September 2019 when he suffered a thigh hamstring sprain. Three months later, a Grade 1 concussion forced him to miss some action.
One year after the concussion, he missed some games due to a Grade 3 High Ankle Sprain. Since then, he has played 17 games in the 2021 and 2022 regular seasons. McLaurin has 305 receptions for 4,356 yards and 21 touchdowns as of the 2022 season.
