Brandon Belt Returns To DH Role
1 year agoToronto Blue Jays first baseman Brandon Belt (back) has returned to the team's starting lineup against right-hander Chris Flexen and the Colorado Rockies, serving as the designated hitter and batting cleanup. Back issues kept Belt out of the last two games, but it wasn't a serious issue and he's now available for the start of a series against the Rockies at Coors Field. The 35-year-old left-handed slugger has good history in his career at hitter-friendly Coors Field during his time with the San Francisco Giants, and he's had a pretty solid first year in Toronto. Belt has hit .250 (78-for-312) with 15 home runs, 37 RBI and 47 runs scored in 312 at-bats. He's also coming off a strong month of August, going 21-for-74 (.284) with seven round-trippers, four doubles, 11 RBI and 17 runs scored in 21 games (20 starts).
