Zac Gallen To Start For NL In All-Star Game
1 year agoArizona Diamondbacks right-hander Zac Gallen will get the starting nod for the National League in Tuesday's All-Star game in Seattle, and he'll be opposed by New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole for the American League. Gallen is unlikely to go for more than a few innings in the Midsummer Classic after picking up his 11th win over the season in a seven-inning, one-run outing last Friday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. This will be the 27-year-old's first start in an All-Star game, and he's gone 11-3 with a solid 3.04 ERA (league-leading 2.77 FIP), league-leading 1.05 WHIP, 23 walks and 125 strikeouts in 118 1/3 innings over his 19 starts. Gallen's start last Friday was a nice bounce-back outing after giving up eight total earned runs in his previous two starts combined.
