Andrew Painter Experiencing More Elbow Discomfort
1 year agoPhiladelphia Phillies pitching prospect Andrew Painter (elbow) is undergoing tests for right-elbow discomfort. Manager Rob Thomson said he couldn't reveal the specific testing and isn't sure when the results will be available. Painter dealt with some elbow stiffness earlier this week but managed to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday. The 20-year-old right-hander obviously didn't recover well after that session and could be looking at an even longer absence as he tries to return from a partially torn UCL. Depending on what the tests show, Painter could need Tommy John surgery, which would keep him out for the rest of 2023 and likely most, if not all, of 2024. This could be a huge setback for the Phillies' top prospect, per MLB Pipeline.
