Brian Burns 2023 NFL Player Outlook: High Volume Creates High Production
1 year agoCarolina Panthers defensive end Brian Burns remains with Carolina in 2023 after his team picked up his fifth-year option. His 2022 season was widely hailed as a breakout. He set career highs in solo tackles, assists, tackles for losses, QB hits, and sacks. Burns' usage has increased each season, surpassing 950 defensive snaps. He was on the field for almost 90% of the Panthers' defensive plays. He finished as the DL6 on FantasyPro's top scorers list. The fact that the Panthers picked up his option shows they value him and will continue to use Burns heavily. Burns is benefiting from his high volume more than efficiency. Last season, his sack rate per pass rush of 2.5% was slightly higher than his career rate of 2.3%. His missed tackle rate was relatively high at 15.5%. Burns remains a solid starter in redraft leagues.
