Jaelan Phillips 2023 NFL Player Outlook: Breakout EDGE Of 2023
1 year agoThe book on Miami Dolphins linebacker Jaelan Phillips coming out of college was that he was a safe and well-rounded pass rusher who carried concerns over injuries and upside compared to the rest of his draft class. So far, injuries have not been a concern for Phillips, as he's been available for every game of his professional career. He's also answered concerns about his upside, ranking seventh in quarterback pressures and fifth in quarterback hits amongst all NFL defenders last year. With those positive figures in mind, it's no wonder the former Hurricane is getting dark horse Defensive Player of the Year reports out of minicamp. The edge rusher is reportedly "shredded," and his new defensive coordinator (Vic Fangio) utilizes a perfect scheme for Phillips' skillset. Fangio has a history of producing elite pass rushers, and there's good reason to think he can help Phillips improve on his seven sacks from 2022. In deep dynasty leagues, prioritize trading for this Miami product before he has his full-on breakout season. Consider him a tremendous option in shallow redraft formats if you wait to draft a DL until the end.
