Bryce Young 2023 NFL Player Outlook: 2023’s First Overall Pick Has Fantasy Viability In Carolina
1 year agoCarolina Panthers rookie quarterback Bryce Young capped off a prolific collegiate career by becoming the first overall pick of the 2023 NFL draft. In his final two seasons at Alabama, Young completed 65.7 percent of his passes for 8,200 yards and 79 touchdowns with just 12 interceptions. He also added 130 carries for 180 yards and seven rushing touchdowns with the Crimson Tide. Now he finds himself on a Panthers team that has a solid offensive line and a hodgepodge collection of wide receiver talent. Carolina used free agency to add D.J. Chark and Adam Thielen to the wide receiver room, then spent a second-round pick on Ole Miss wide receiver Jonathan Mingo. Young is lauded for his processing ability and accuracy. The Panthers named recently named Young as the team's starter for Week 1. Still, it seems unlikely that the rookie will be more than a middle-to-back end QB2 in his first season in the NFL, given his limited mobility and the lack of a true alpha wide receiver. While he can put up spike weeks passing the ball, there doesn't seem to be a path to him having a true QB1 upside in his first season with his current supporting cast.
