Jose Butto Called Up For Wednesday's Doubleheader
2 years agoThe New York Mets called up pitching prospect Jose Butto from Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday to serve as the 27th man for their doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers. Butto also served as the 27th man for Monday's doubleheader against the division-rival Atlanta Braves, but he wasn't used at all in relief. The 25-year-old right-hander will be sent back to the farm following Wednesday's doubleheader. Butto, the club's No. 15 prospect per MLB Pipeline, has fared well in his two spot starts in 2023, allowing three runs on nine hits (one homer surrendered), although he has 10 walks opposed to three strikeouts in 9 2/3 frames. He'll continue to develop in the minors until the Mets need rotation help again this year.
