Tommy Pham Starting Friday Against Marlins
2 years agoNew York Mets outfielder Tommy Pham will make his first start of the year on Friday against the Miami Marlins and left-hander Jesus Luzardo. Pham is starting in left field and is batting eighth in the lineup. Mark Canha will serve as the designated hitter and Tomas Nido will do the catching. Daniel Vogelbach and Omar Narvaez are on the bench against the lefty. Pham didn't get the start on Opening Day on Thursday, but he entered for two at-bats and went hitless with one strikeout in a 5-3 win. The 35-year-old veteran had one of the worst seasons of his career in 2022 with the Cincinnati Reds and Boston Red Sox, thanks mostly to a career-high 26.8 percent strikeout rate. He'll be on the short side of a platoon in his first year in Queens.
