Masataka Yoshida Hitting Cleanup In MLB Debut
2 years agoBoston Red Sox outfielder Masataka Yoshida is starting in left field and hitting cleanup, as expected, in his major-league debut on Opening Day on Thursday against right-hander Kyle Gibson and the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park. Alex Verdugo is leading off, Rafael Devers is in the two-hole and Justin Turner will hit third for Boston. The 29-year-old left-handed-hitting Yoshida will hit in the heart of the BoSox's order after spending a good chunk of his time this spring playing for Team Japan in the World Baseball Classic. In only five Grapefruit League games, he went 2-for-12 (.167) with a double and a run scored. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect a ton of power right away from the Japanese outfielder, but he should be useful for a respectable average and on-base percentage.
