Miguel Vargas Won't Swing Monday
2 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers infielder Miguel Vargas (finger) will play in the Cactus League game on Monday against the San Diego Padres, but he won't be hitting. Manager Dave Roberts said over the weekend that Vargas has regained his grip strength and that he's been doing more work in the batting cages, but he's not ready to swing in a game just yet. The 23-year-old is recovering from a hairline fracture in his right pinkie finger. There's still time for him to be ready before Opening Day, and the young infielder could see regular playing time at second base in 2023 with Gavin Lux moving to the full-time role at shortstop. Vargas didn't look very good in his first 50 MLB plate appearances last year, but the top prospect could fare much better in his first full season in LA.
