Justin Steele Scratched Sunday With Arm Fatigue
2 years agoChicago Cubs left-hander Justin Steele (arm) was scratched from his Cactus League debut on Sunday due to general arm fatigue. The plan is to give him a few days to rest before he throws a bullpen session. Javier Assad will now start in Steele's place on Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. As of right now, this doesn't sound like a very serious issue, but we'll know more once he throws a bullpen next week. As long as the 27-year-old southpaw doesn't have more setbacks, he'll have time to get ready for Opening Day. In his second big-league season last year, Steele impressed with a 3.18 ERA (3.20 FIP), 1.35 WHIP and 24.6% strikeout rate in 119 innings and 24 starts for the Cubbies. The emerging left-hander should open the year as the No. 2 starter for Chicago behind Marcus Stroman, if he's healthy.
