Carlos Estevez 2023 Fantasy Outlook: The Favorite For Saves With Angels?
2 years agoRelief pitcher Carlos Estevez joined the Los Angeles Angels in free agency in the offseason on a two-year, $13.5 million deal after spending six years with the Colorado Rockies. He went 4-4 in 2022 with a career-best 3.47 ERA (4.08 FIP), 1.17 WHIP, two saves, 23 walks and 54 strikeouts in 57 relief innings. The 30-year-old right-hander could be the favorite for save chances in his new digs, but his lack of control and strikeouts don't give him a ton of fantasy upside on an Angles team that isn't expected to be in contention in 2023. Estevez gets up to the high-90s with his fastball and should benefit from the move away from hitter-friendly Coors Field. He's worth a look at the end of deep-mixed drafts for saves, but he could be involved in a committee approach to the ninth inning with Jimmy Herget and Ryan Tepera.
