Brendan Rodgers 2023 MLB Player Outlook: Likely Out For The Season With Shoulder Injury, Mainly A Stash In Dynasty Leagues
2 years agoColorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers (shoulder) enters his fifth season in the major leagues in 2023, needing to do something to earn the trust of fantasy managers. Rodgers' campaign could be over before the 2023 season began as an MRI revealed that the former first-round pick could need season-ending shoulder surgery. He suffered a dislocated left shoulder in a Cactus League in March and is going for a second opinion. Rodgers finished the 2022 campaign with a .266/.325/.408 slash line with a .733 OPS, 13 home runs, 63 RBI, and 72 runs scored in a career-high 581 plate appearances and 137 games played. The 26-year-old did win his first Gold Glove award on defense, but on the offensive side, he's left a lot to be desired. Injuries had been an issue for Rodgers previously, but even with better health in 2022, he disappointed. There's nothing sexy that stands out about his game for fantasy purposes, and he's struggled to hit well on the road early in his career. Making things worse, he has yet to steal a base in the big leagues. A post-hype breakout probably isn't coming in 2024, although youth makes him an injury stash in dynasty leagues.
