Cowboys Want Ezekiel Elliott Back In 2023
2 years agoBoth Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and executive vice president Stephen Jones were adamant that they want running back Ezekiel Elliott back in 2023, but Stephen Jones reiterated it "has to work financially" for both sides. Elliott said recently that he'd be willing to take a pay cut to stay in Dallas. He has a dead salary cap hit of $12 million, so there's a chance the Cowboys cut him this offseason if they can't work something out. Tony Pollard, who has been much more explosive than Elliott the last two years, is a free agent, but the Cowboys want to re-sign him. The 27-year-old Elliott had a career-low 3.8 yard-per-carry average in 2022, gaining 876 yards and 12 touchdowns on 231 carries. If he stays in Dallas and Pollard returns, he'll continue to see his role decrease as more of a short-yardage, goal-line back.
