The 2022 NFL season was one to forget for the Indianapolis Colts. Last year, they finished the season with a 9-8 record and were one win away from making the playoffs.
In the offseason, the Colts made two blockbuster trades. They sent Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders and acquired Matt Ryan from the Atlanta Falcons. The team felt the change at quarterback was an upgrade. However, it wasn’t.
Indianapolis won only four games this year and started three quarterbacks throughout the season. The team will release Ryan in the offseason. More importantly, the Colts need to find their franchise quarterback after having a different Opening Day starter for the past five years.

What Draft Picks Do The Indianapolis Colts Own in the 2023 Draft?
Following their 4-12-1 record this season, the Colts have the fourth-overall draft pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. It is their highest draft position since the team had the third-overall selection in the 2018 NFL Draft before trading it to the New York Jets so they could pick Sam Darnold.
This year, Indianapolis will have seven picks in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Colts have the fourth and 35th overall picks. However, their third-round selection belongs to the Denver Broncos as part of a draft day trade from last year. Meanwhile, they own Washington’s third-round pick as part of the Wentz deal.
Who Could The Indianapolis Colts Draft In The First Round?
The Colts would love to get their hands on Alabama’s Bryce Young. However, that will require them to trade up to the No. 1 overall pick. Assuming they don't trade up, Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud would be an excellent fallback option.
However, the Buckeyes' star quarterback hasn’t declared for the NFL Draft. There are rumors that Stroud could return to Columbus next season, which leaves the Colts in an awful position.
If Stroud returns to school, Indianapolis could become more aggressive in trade talks with the Chicago Bears for the first overall pick. A potential deal would involve multiple draft picks, including possibly the Colts' first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Assuming a trade doesn’t happen, the Colts will have plenty of appealing options with the fourth-overall pick. Kentucky’s Will Levis and Florida’s Anthony Richardson are two options at quarterback.
Indianapolis could also elect to trade down and acquire picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, hoping they can secure their franchise quarterback next year.
