Blue Jays Encouraged By Kevin Gausman's Recovery
2 years agoThe Toronto Blue Jays are encouraged by starting pitcher Kevin Gausman's (finger) recovery, according to general manager Ross Atkins. Gausman isn't locked into a specific game for the Wild-Card Series this weekend against the Seattle Mariners, but he remains a leading option to start Game 2 or Game 3, if necessary. The 31-year-old is throwing a bullpen session on Thursday, and as long as he doesn't have any setbacks with his lacerated middle finger, he should draw a start this weekend. If he starts Game 2 for Toronto, he'll be opposed by Seattle lefty Robbie Ray. In his lone start against the Mariners in 2022, Gausman allowed two earned runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out three in five innings pitched while picking up a loss.
