Taysom Hill 2022 NFL Player Outlook: A Fantasy Cheat Code At TE?
2 years agoAfter the Saints re-signed incumbent quarterback Jameis Winston to a two-year, $28 million contract this offseason, questions loomed about the future of Taysom Hill. After flashing as a returner and Swiss Army knife type of sorts for the Saints in recent seasons, new head coach Dennis Allen announced that Hill would be changing his positional eligibility to tight end. "The role for Taysom really is going to be a lot more of the kind of F tight end, 'move' tight end type of role. That's the direction that we need to move with him because he can be one of the better players in the league in that role." He will compete for targets with Adam Trautman, Nick Vannett, and Juwan Johnson. While Hill has a 7-2 record as a starter at QB, it's clear the Saints view him as more of a gadget player. Inside the red zone, Hill has flourished the past two seasons putting up an average of 415 rushing yards and 6.5 rushing touchdowns per year. The Saints are invested in Hill after recently giving him a four-year, $40 million extension. How his skills will translate to his new role remains to be seen, but his current ADP of 205 feels like a relative bargain for someone who now qualifies as a TE, especially in best ball formats. The 31-year-old did undergo surgery to repair a Lisfranc injury of his left foot but is on track to be ready by Week 1. While Winston is the clear starter at quarterback on the Saints, Hill is a player worth keeping an eye on all summer in his new role.
