Jeff Wilson Jr. 2022 NFL Player Outlook: Former Playoff Hero Is No More Than A Waiver Wire Depth Piece
2 years agoSan Francisco 49ers running back Jeff Wilson, Jr., burst onto the fantasy landscape at the end of the 2020 season, where he filled in for oft-injured running back Raheem Mostert and dropped 58 carries for 319 yards and four touchdowns in the fantasy playoffs. There is no denying that Wilson won fantasy managers their leagues two years ago, however, last year, fantasy managers tried to recapture the magic with Wilson and were left extremely disappointed. Wilson missed the first six weeks of the 2021 season due to his recovery from a torn meniscus that he suffered during OTAs, but by the time he had returned to action, rookie running back Elijah Mitchell took the reigns of this backfield and never looked back. This year, the best case scenario for Wilson would be to start the year as the back-up to Mitchell, but he will have to beat out third-round rookie Tyrion Davis-Price and the catastrophic bust of 2021, Trey Sermon. He is currently going undrafted in 12-team redraft leagues, which is perfectly suitable for a dart-throw running back that may not even see the field, but he should be at the top of your waiver-wire list heading into the season.
