Michael Gallup 2022 NFL Player Outlook: Buyer Beware
2 years agoDallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup saw his 2021 season cut short with two separate injuries that held him sidelined, the latter being an ACL tear in Week 17. The injury didn't scare the Cowboys away from locking him down this offseason to a five-year, $62.5 million extension. The 26-year-old caught 35-of-62 targets for 445 yards and two touchdowns over nine games before the injury. Gallup finds himself in an extraordinary situation attached to quarterback Dak Prescott for the near future and having a chance to be the No.2 weapon behind star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. He has proven himself to be more than capable of averaging 15.0 yards per catch during his career. Gallup averaged 3.5 YAC per reception, and 11.5 air yards per target, ranking 44th among all wideouts in 2021. However, with how late in 2021 Gallup's injury occurred, he could start the season on the PUP list. The upside is undoubtedly there, but fantasy managers should all tread carefully until more about the injury situation is known. Gallup is currently 79th in the latest Rotoballer rankings, making him an excellent target in later rounds of leagues where you can stash him away on IR until his return later in the season.
