Gus Edwards 2022 Outlook - Stuck In A Three-Headed Rushing Attack
3 years agoGus Edwards will return to the Baltimore backfield once again in a backup role behind J.K. Dobbins, who both suffered torn ACLs prior to the 2021 season. The Ravens will likely be a full-blown committee once again, as quarterback Lamar Jackson will also get a significant amount of rushing attempts. Jackson had 133 attempts in 12 games last season, which will limit the upside that Edwards has to offer even though he is in one of the league's most run-heavy offenses. Not to mention, the Ravens added some insurance with the addition of Mike Davis to their backfield, as it is possible that both Dobbins and Edwards will be eased back into their roles in the offense. Edwards has averaged 5.2 yards per carry over his career, while not having a single season below 5.0 yards per carry. He has not been held under 700 rushing yards in any season, all while having just 13 starts since he entered the NFL. It is not a question of talent when it comes to the fantasy value of Edwards, rather it is the situation he is in. He is coming off a significant injury while playing in a backup role with limited receiving work. At best, he is a handcuff option that has little to no standalone value, especially in PPR formats. Even if Dobbins were to miss any action, Edwards would be a touchdown-dependent FLEX option with a limited ceiling. He is worth a late-round pick, but nothing more.
