Salvador Perez Serving As Designated Hitter
3 years agoKansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez (thumb) is serving as the designated hitter and is batting cleanup on Friday against Houston Astros right-hander Jose Urquidy because of his thumb injury. Manager Mike Matheny is unsure if Perez will catch at all this weekend. In addition to Perez at DH, first baseman Carlos Santana is on the bench Friday. MJ Melendez is doing the catching and is hitting seventh, while Hunter Dozier is at first base and is batting sixth in the batting order. Since returning from a stint on the injured list, Perez has gone 1-for-19 at the plate with no home runs, and he's now slashing .187/.227/.355 with six home runs and 16 RBI on the year. His thumb injury is certainly something to watch as we move forward.
