BALLER MOVE: Stash in All Leagues
LATEST PROSPECT RANKING: No. 3
CALL-UP ETA: May
ANALYSIS: What more does Paul Skenes have to do to get his call to The Show? The big right-hander only has a modest 0.39 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, and 41:6 K:BB over 23 innings (six starts) with Triple-A Indianapolis this season. The only guess is that the Pittsburgh Pirates want him to reach a certain number of innings in the minor leagues before bringing him up.
The 21-year-old 2023 No. 1 overall pick ranks as MLB Pipeline's top pitching prospect in baseball for 2024, and with the Pirates having lost 15 of their last 20 games, this promotion just has to be imminent. Skenes is already rostered in 68% of Yahoo leagues, which tells you all you need to know about his sheer potential.

With Marco Gonzales (forearm) nursing a strained forearm on his throwing arm, former top prospect Quinn Priester is probably one bad start away from Skenes getting elevated. Skenes is arguably the best pitching prospect since Stephen Strasburg, and with difference-making upside right off the bat, there’s no reason for him to be on any fantasy waiver wires at this point.
